10 Non-Marvel Superheroes With Iconic Tech-Powered Suits

Movies

When you think of superheroes with tech-powered suits, many people likely think of Marvel’s Iron Man or other major heroes in the franchise. However, there’s a good deal of impressive heroes and anti-heroes outside of Marvel Comics that also sport iconic tech-powered suits. These suits range from advanced, armored exoskeletons to even alien machinery, and all allow their users to wield incredible power.

DC Comics, Image Comics, Valiant Comics, and other publishers have introduced a fair share of impressive, armored heroes that deserve more recognition than they often get. While Marvel heroes like Iron Man, Ant-Man, and others often steal the spotlight as the most well-known and talked-about heroes in technologically advanced suits, many others are just as impressive and iconic.

Robot, whose real name is Rudolph “Rudy” Conners, is known for his genius-level intellect, making him one of Earth’s top heroes in Invincible. Initially leading the Teen Team, he later becomes the leader of the elite superhero team, the Guardians of the Globe, using the armored body he created to battle against various threats.

More impressively, Robot’s engineering skills go beyond his suit as he creates and utilizes sophisticated drones and various automated weapons. In the comics, he goes on to create black armor that is specifically designed to exploit the weaknesses of Viltrumites, giving him an edge over some of the most powerful warriors in the universe.

Rocket Red #4

Using advanced military technology, he has no need for innate superpowers, and he later goes on to join some of the world’s most prominent superhero teams.

Like other members of the Rocket Red Brigade, his armored suit grants him superhuman strength, enhanced durability, and flight through advanced propulsion systems. He is also equipped with plasma blasters, advanced sensors, a thought-responsive interface, and even life support for hostile environments. Even when his original suit is destroyed, he gains an even more powerful replacement that uses advanced Apokoliptian technology.

As a founding member of the Authority, she brings scientific expertise to the team and provides tactical support and also stands as one of the team’s heavy hitters.

Unlike other heroes in tech-powered suits, Angela stands out because she herself is the tech. After incorporating nanotechnology directly into her body, she effectively turned herself into a versatile and incredibly formidable hero who can reshape her body into weapons, protective plating, flight systems, and more.

His futuristic suit grants him enhanced strength and durability, while its energy weapons and protective force-field technology help him against opponents with powerful abilities or weapons of their own. Paired with a Legion flight ring providing him a means of flying and his robotic companion Skeets providing tactical support and knowledge, Booster Gold stands as a noteworthy hero.

Aric of Dacia was a Visigoth warrior from the fifth century who was captured and enslaved by an alien race known as the Vine. After leading a revolt, he seized their sacred weapon, Shanhara, and escaped to Earth, only to find that more than a millennium had passed. Stranded in the modern world, Aric became known as X-O Manowar, wielding alien tech that far exceeds human engineering.

Shanhara is a sentient, techno-organic battlesuit that bonds directly with Aric and responds to his thoughts. With it, X-O Manowar is granted immense strength, formidable protection, advanced weaponry, and the ability to fly through space. Beyond that, the armor also repairs its own damage, heals its wearer, translates unfamiliar languages, and more, making it both an advanced combat system and an incredibly versatile and helpful piece of alien technology.

Blue Beetle

He is a teenager from El Paso, Texas, who stands as the third hero to become Blue Beetle after he discovers a mysterious alien scarab known as Khaji Da. The artifact bonds to his spine and grants Jaime extraordinary powers.

Unlike earlier Blue Beetles, Jaime relies on living alien technology that occasionally challenges his control over it. Beyond the armor and enhancements to Jaime’s strength and durability, he is also granted the powers of flight, protection from hostile environments, and advanced weaponry, shields, and other tools. Guided by a sentient artificial intelligence, the suit can even scan opponents, analyze dangers, and communicate with other alien technology.

He begins his story as a troubled teen who breaks into Wayne Manor and steals a high-tech Batsuit to avenge his father, who was unjustly murdered. Despite his tragic origin, Terry becomes a capable hero.

The Batsuit he inherits is built with synthetic muscle fibers and powered systems to amplify Terry’s strength and agility. Paired with retractable wings and boot thrusters, he can comfortably fly above the city, and with active cloaking, he is difficult to detect. Along with several other highly advanced features, Terry’s Batsuit is truly a formidable piece of technology, allowing him to stand as a valued superhero.

John Henry Irons built Steel’s identity around the powerful conviction that technology should protect people, not endanger them. As a gifted engineer and former weapons designer, Irons abandoned the arms industry after witnessing the devastation his inventions could cause. When Superman fell in battle against Doomsday, he created a mechanized suit to defend Metropolis in his place, honoring his legacy while building his own.

Steel uses powered armor to grant himself enhanced strength, flight, and protection against attacks. His most recognizable weapon is a massive steel sledgehammer, which was inspired by the folk hero John Henry and designed for maximum impact. Depending on the version of the story, his armor also has specialized weaponry and defense systems that aid his mission to protect the innocent.
