Billionaire transphobe Elon Musk allegedly cut off his daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson’s health insurance coverage the day after she came out as transgender. Wilson’s mother, Justine Wilson, made this claim in Musk, the newly released nearly four-hour documentary about Musk’s global influence over right-wing politics.
Justine Wilson – who married Musk in 2000, divorced him in 2008, and birthed six of his children (one of whom died after 10 weeks due to sudden infant death syndrome) – spoke of her trans daughter in the documentary, saying, “[Vivian] is extremely strong-willed. Elon and I had five kids, and the one who was most openly defiant was Jenna [Vivian’s middle name],” People magazine reported.

The mother said that when Vivian was 6 years old, Elon told her, “In this world, there are winners and losers. Do you want to be a winner or do you want to be a loser?” Justine Wilson added, “The subtext there was, ‘If you do not follow me and do what I say, you will be a loser.’ ”
Justine Wilson said that Musk treated Vivian Wilson’s gender transition like the “death of a child” and added that her trans daughter felt “pain” after Musk wrote on X (the social media platform that he has owned since 2022) that he had lost his child to the “woke mind virus.”

In response to her father, Vivian Wilson published a defiant social media post in which she wrote, “I look pretty good for a dead b**ch… and you don’t.” She later reprinted the phrase on apparel to fundraise for LGBTQ+ youth.
Justine Wilson noted that she and Musk had actually experienced the death of a child, and that she saw her daughter’s newly declared gender identity as merely a part of her daughter growing up.
“[With his ‘woke mind virus’ post,] Elon was telling her, through telling the world, what that point of view actually was,” Justine said. “And Elon never tried to repair things, that’s not in his nature… If a relationship ruptures, then it ruptures.”
The mother also claimed that the day their daughter came out as trans, Musk said he’d always love her, but the very next day, he cut off her health insurance.
The documentary, which is now in select theaters, will be released nationwide on October 16. Musk has threatened legal action against its director, Alex Gibney, for the film’s alleged factual distortions. Musk has called the film a “hit piece.”
Vivian Wilson has repeatedly used her social media to call out her father as “cold,” “cruel,” “very quick to anger,” and “uncaring and narcissistic.”
In a March 2025 Teen Vogue interview, Vivian Wilson described her dad as a “pathetic man-child” and said, “Why should I be scared of this man? Because he’s rich? Oh, no, I’m trembling. Ooh, shivering in my boots here. I don’t give a f**k how much money anyone has.”
“People thrive off of fear,” she added. “I’m not giving anyone that space in my mind.”
