Arriving at Salt House Inn immediately put a smile on my face. Walking up to the property, the exterior sets a calm tone right away with weathered shingles, manicured gardens, chic outdoor furniture, and cobblestone pathways. It gives off an inviting coastal feel before you even cross the threshold.
Tucked just off the main road, the 15-room retreat balances historical Cape Cod architecture with modern comfort. Crisp white walls, curated vintage pieces, and plush bedding run throughout the building.
A Warm Welcome In The Parlor
While the crisp interior design initially caught my eye, the staff made the stay truly special. Every morning when I walked into The Parlor, I was greeted by either Michael, Steve, and Marcia. They functioned as part hosts, part local tour guides, always ready to chat, hand over travel tips, or dish out breakfast. Co-founder Kevin O’Shea was also on-site, sharing stories about the property and pointing out local spots across town.
The Parlor serves as the main hub of the inn. Mornings start here with a rotating breakfast spread that mixes sweet pastries, savory dishes, fresh fruit, daily yogurt parfaits, and house-made granola. By late afternoon, the space shifts into a daily social hour at 4:00 PM where guests gather for drinks after exploring town. Outside, the lush garden, sunlit decks, and quiet patios give you plenty of secluded corners to lounge with a cocktail.
Room Layouts And Amenities
My guest room felt bright, clean, and restful, fitted with fresh linens, a cozy bed, and a private bathroom stocked with Further bath products: an aromatic blend of bergamot, olive, and exotic grasses.
The inn offers seven distinct room configurations across its 15 accommodations, catering to different space needs:
- The Loft: The largest option at roughly 400 square feet, featuring a king bed, an open clawfoot soaking tub right in the room, a sitting area, and an en-suite bathroom.
- Deluxe King: Spanning 350 square feet on the ground level, this layout includes a king bed, a dedicated workspace, a sitting area, and an en-suite bathroom.
- Standard King: Measuring 180 square feet, these rooms feature a king bed, rainhead showers in the en-suite bathroom, and custom art assemblages mounted above the bed frame.
- Superior Queen: Offering 160 square feet of space with a queen bed, summer-weight duvet, mini fridge, and private en-suite bathroom.
- Standard Queen: A 160-square-foot option with a queen bed and a bistro set for two. This specific room includes a dedicated private bathroom steps down the hallway, secured by room key and stocked with plush robes.
- Superior Double: A cozy 140-square-foot room with vaulted ceilings, a double bed, and an en-suite bathroom with a rainhead shower.
- The Snug: A compact 125-square-foot footprint designed for single travelers or couples packing light, complete with a double bed, open closet storage, mini fridge, and en-suite bath.
Every room comes equipped with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, summer-weight duvets, mini fridges, and signature toiletries made from distilled biofuel glycerin.
A stylish bed is always nice, but authentic hospitality determines whether a stay sticks with you. The team at Salt House Inn delivered a level of care that has me already planning my return trip to Cape Cod.
