DC Zombies Game DCEASED Officially Coming

Movies

Back in 2019, DC Comics ran an event called DCeased set in an alternate reality where many of the company’s most popular superheroes were turned into zombies. This event wasn’t all too dissimilar to the popular Marvel Zombies books, which also featured a few surviving heroes making a last stand against zombified versions of popular characters. Now, fans of the DC event will be able to recreate it themselves with the help of an upcoming board game.

The popular game system Zombicide launched a Kickstarter for a DCeased version in 2023 and recently finished production on the core game box. For the uninitiated, Zombicide is a cooperative PVE experience that tasks players with completing different missions while being attacked by NPC zombies whose behavior is dictated by the game’s rules. Player characters and enemies are represented by miniatures like in Warhammer 40K. The initial version of Zombicide came out all the way back in 2012, and has since spawned over a hundred new products, including tie-ins for other DC Comics events like Dark Nights Metal.

Similar to the LEGO Batman game series, part of the appeal of Zombicide‘s DCeased edition is the ability to play as some of your favorite DC heroes. The game allows you to control popular heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash, each with their own unique abilities to take down zombies. The game also takes inspiration from the DCeased comic event, and features unique heroes from Earth 55, like Green Canary, AKA the Green Lantern version of Black Canary.

What’s cool about DCeased is that, unlike the base Zombicide game, enemies aren’t just generic zombies, but also fan-favorite DC characters. The game features gloriously gory versions of characters ranging from iconic heroes like Superman to obscure joke villains like Kite Man. DCeased Zombicide therefore has a lot to offer DC fans, even if they aren’t specifically looking to play the game. You can still get a wide variety of detailed miniatures to paint.

While the game may seem like good news for anyone just learning about it, it’s worth noting that backers of the project have been waiting a long time at this point for DCeased Zombicide to ship. The game’s estimated delivery date in the campaign originally said April 2025, and while delays are common with this type of game, it’s worth tempering any excitement for DCeased‘s release until we get more news from its publisher, CMON. The game is still listed as “Available Soon” on CMON’s website, with the latest Kickstarter update saying the game should be shipping to backers by the end of 2026.

Like any miniatures game, it’s also worth noting that DCeased Zombicide is not cheap. Kickstarter backers were able to grab the base game for $130, which we can likely expect to be a bit of a discounted price as is common for crowdfunding rewards. If you are a big DC Comics fan, and you’re used to spending premium money on miniatures games, then this project is likely still worth following, as it has some cool models and uses a reliable game system.
