This sports star sure can sing.

A beloved NFL player was eliminated during The Masked Singer‘s Dec. 4 episode despite showcasing some unexpected powerhouse vocals on the Fox singing competition series.

Before taking the stage to perform an impressive cover of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls during the quarter finals, the mystery celebrity—disguised as his character Goo—shared more hints about his true identity and secret passion for music.

“It’s been really meaningful to hear the panel’s comment because—spoiler alert—I don’t do this for a living,” Goo teased the judges in a video. “I’ve always been a Goo with two dreams: Singing and what you might know me for in real life. And everyone said I couldn’t do both, but I never wavered. Being here has been the time of my life, a test drive of my other passion—and who knows what will come next.”

Following his performance, judges Jenny McCarthy and Robin Thicke noted Goo’s vocal abilities were shocking given he’s not a professional singer. Their praise, plus a surprise message from his fiancée, brought Goo to tears.
