The Hard Quartet Announce Debut Live Shows, Share Video for New Song “Earth Hater”: Watch

Music

The Hard Quartet—a new band comprised of Stephen Malkmus, Chavez’s Matt Sweeney, Dirty Three’s Jim White, and the Cairo Gang’s Emmett Kelly—have shared their debut single. The new song is called “Earth Hater,” and it comes with a claymation music video directed by Eyedress. Watch it below.

Malkmus takes the reigns as the lead singer on “Earth Hater.” With him on singing duties and the fuzzy filter that the rest of the Hard Quartet drapes over an otherwise rollicking indie-rock song, it should be fairly familiar for fans of Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.

The Hard Quartet have also announced their first-ever live shows, which are slated to take place this autumn with support from Papa M, Weak Signal, and Tubs. The band will make its debut in Los Angeles on October 10, and follow that with concerts in New York and London. A press release notes that the Hard Quartet will be “touring extensively in 2025.” For now, see the group”s complete list of dates below.
