Like with many recent titles, Outerminds’ Turbo Kid video game adaptation has been in development for a long while, but we’re finally getting it this April! Originally announced as a Kickstarter back in 2021, Outermind will be bringing the Metroidvania home to PC via Steam on April 10. The announcement coincides with a new trailer debuting at IGN Fan Fest.

As for those looking at the previously-announced Switch version, Outerminds is “still hard at work” getting the port ready, which will be released “shortly after the Steam launch.”

If that news isn’t enough, Outerminds will be launching a new demo on Steam for Turbo Kid this Friday. The demo is described as being “jampacked” with updated art, level design, NPCs, and more.

Set between the end of 2015’s Turbo Kid and the upcoming sequel, and developed in collaboration with RKSS, a writer-director team consisting of Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Yoann-Karl Whissell, Outerminds’ Turbo Kid is an all-new pixel art Metroidvania-style adventure that’s “drenched in jaw-dropping graphics, outrageous weapons, bucketloads of gore, ragdoll physics, BMX bikes and cotton candy.”

Set in a retro-futuristic 80s vision of 1997, you play as Turbo Kid as he takes on a manipulative Preacher and his devoted disciples to free a confined Wasteland town from their theocratic rule. A nightmare vision of the 90s, Turbo Kid is set in a world where humanity has broken down, water is scarce, tyrannical warlords roam the Wasteland, and bikes are the steeds of choice for would-be saviours.

As you might expect from the genre, Turbo Kid will have you upgrade and build, blasting, slashing, running, jumping, crawling and riding your way to victory, featuring an original soundtrack provided by “the masters of electronica” in Le Matos!
