Andy Cohen Responds To Backlash For “Congratulating” Slimmed-Down Real Housewives Using Ozempic

Reality TV

If the sun is in the sky, then you can bet that Andy Cohen is somewhere getting criticized for something. Whether it’s how he tackles reunion questions, how he raises his kids, or how much booze he consumes on CNN’s New Year’s Eve, the Daddy of Bravo is always landing in hot water. This time, Page Six reported that he has come under fire for how he handles the Ozempic conversation on Watch What Happens Live. However, Andy seemed a little unsure of how to act on the feedback.

As the type 2 diabetes drug has taken over the celebrity world, Andy has become increasingly curious about which Housewives use the type 2 diabetes drug to get snatched. For example, in a recent episode of WWHL, he got Real Housewives of New Jersey star Dolores Catania to confess to slimming down with Ozempic. In a previous episode, Jennifer Fessler admitted to using the drug. One fan watching at home had seen enough, and she sent Andy a DM about it.

On SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, he read a DM he received from a disgruntled fan following the Dolores episode of WWHL. The fan asked him to “stop congratulating” stars for losing weight and using Ozempic because of its negative impact on viewers at home suffering from body dysmorphia and eating disorders. The fan explained, “Tonight was the third Watch What Happens Live guest who I’ve heard you praise for losing weight and inquiring about Ozempic.”

Surprisingly, Andy agreed with the fan. He said, “Well, you know what? This woman – she’s right.”

Page Six pointed out that this woman technically isn’t right because Andy didn’t necessarily congratulate anyone about their weight loss. Still, his questions about weight loss are very different from what audiences are used to hearing from other TV hosts. During the radio show, Andy recalled the segment with Dolores that set off the fan.

“I said to [Dolores], ‘You look great,’ and she said, ‘Yeah, I lost weight.’ I go ‘Ozempy?’ She said, ‘Yup you better believe it!’” Andy explained. “I was happy that she told the truth about it, by the way, because there are so many people who aren’t.”

Although Andy acknowledged that his line of questioning could border on the line of problematic, he argued that he just tries to “deliver the goods” for the audience. He also reflected on how WWHL and the Housewives franchise can be nuanced, which makes it difficult to gauge how to move forward with conversations about appearance.

Advocating for his freedom to ask his guests about Ozempic, Andy argued, “The Housewives from the get-go, the women have been on a pursuit of youth and whatever their idea of beauty is.” He continued, “This has been from season one of [Real Housewives of] Orange County.”

Poor Andy is trying his best to balance the messy nature of his show with these genuine complaints from fans. So, he turned the question to his co-host. He asked, “When someone comes to Watch What Happens Live, what do you think is the correct thing to [say]?

His co-host suggested that Andy ask his guests “how they feel” instead of inquiring about Ozempic. But at the same time, does that really satisfy the audience at home? If we can watch our favorite Housewives get dozens of Botox pokes, what’s a little Ozempic going to hurt?

TELL US – SHOULD ANDY STOP ASKING HIS GUESTS ABOUT USING OZEMPIC? OR DO YOU THINK THE HOUSEWIVES FANS WANT TO HEAR THESE TYPES OF QUESTIONS?
