Kathryn Dennis dumps ‘emotionally unavailable’ Chleb Ravenell on ‘Southern Charm’

Reality TV

Things went south — and not in a charming way.

Kathryn Dennis’ tearful 2021 breakup with her “emotionally unavailable” ex-boyfriend, Chleb Ravenell, aired on “Southern Charm” Thursday.

Cameras followed Ravenell, 33, as he returned to his and Dennis’ apartment after spending five days away upon getting into an argument at her 30th birthday party.

“I thought Chleb was going to be my forever person, but now it’s like, I don’t know,” Dennis said in a confessional. “I feel like he has one foot in, one foot out, or something like that.”

Ravenell told Dennis in the episode that he hoped to work through things because he wanted “to come back home.”

“I’ve got a lot going on, and I feel like you lack empathy for what I’m going through,” Dennis responded, likely referring to her ongoing custody battle with ex Thomas Ravenel. “I’m the only one opening up.”

Ravenell said he felt Dennis did not “care about [his] feelings,” but if she started to listen to him more, they could “make it work.”

“Over the past several days, I’ve just thought a lot about what I need and what I have not been getting in this relationship,” Dennis told him. “Like, I feel like you’re emotionally unavailable, and you know I’ve been in relationships with emotionally unavailable people, and I haven’t seen you taking the steps to fulfill the role that I would like someone to fill.”

Ravenell explained that before dating her, he “didn’t know what [he] was getting into,” referring to her two children with Ravenel: Kensie, 8, and Saint, 6. (Ravenell and Ravenel are not related, though Craig Conover alleged that Ravenel’s family once owned Ravenell’s as slaves, thus the name similarity.)

“Like three months into our relationship, you threw the kids straight on me. That’s what scares me as well,” Ravenell told Dennis, adding that seeing her feud with her children’s dad also made him “pull back because it’s a lot for somebody to go through.”

Dennis acknowledged that she came with baggage but said that if Ravenell was “feeling overwhelmed emotionally,” he “should just not be in a relationship.”

“This is not working,” she bluntly said while starting to cry.

“I can’t keep trying if I don’t feel like you’re trying. I never pictured what the moment would be like when we really like went our separate ways, but I really think that’s the best thing for you and for me.”

Ravenell appeared surprised and just said, “Ah, s–t, damn” before going to pack up some of his things. Dennis continued crying while he left — without either saying goodbye.

Dennis added in a confessional that she may need more than just a “good human” as a partner.

“I would say after the guys I have dated historically, I wanted … value. Like, be kind, be a good human, but sometimes that’s not enough,” Dennis emotionally said in a confessional before the episode ended.

Page Six previously reported that Dennis and Ravenell had called it quits in November 2021 after sparking romance rumors in the summer of 2020.

“Southern Charm” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
