Yo La Tengo have announced a reissue of their classic 1997 album I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One. The deluxe edition includes recordings from their 1997 Peel Session as well as era-appropriate remixes from Kevin Shields, µ-Ziq, and members of Tortoise. The reissue is available now on digital streaming platforms via Matador; listen to it below.

Today, the band has also shared a new director’s cut of the classic music video for “Sugarcube.” Starring Mr. Show’s Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, it was directed by Phil Morrison and shows Yo La Tengo being forced to attend the President McKinley Academy of Rock. The new vinyl release of I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One will be available on translucent yellow vinyl, with some bundles that come with a reproduction of the video’s school sweatshirt—available on July 29 in the United States and Canada and August 12 everywhere else.

“I had the greatest time making this,” Odenkirk said in a statement. “Mr. Show reunion, of course, and a great song and scenario. We improvised these hard-rock clowns, perhaps my greatest work in ‘clowning,’ and would love to revisit and really dig deep on who these two were—hair-metal go-getters!” Below, watch the original video and a conversation between Yo La Tengo and David Cross about its creation.
