And just like that… the Sex and the City sequel, And Just Like That…, has been renewed for a second season.

HBO Max announced Tuesday (22 March) that the series has been picked up for another season, reuniting the world once more with Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York.

“I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters — played by these powerful, amazing actors,” said showrunner Michael Patrick King in a statement, The Hollywood Recorder reported.

“The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just like That… our Sex life is back.”

HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey added: “We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much.

“We are proud of the work Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen. We can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for season two.”

King had hinted at a second season in a February interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “I want to know more about all the new characters. I want lots more.”

Seemingly taking a page from Caroline Bradshaw’s book, he added: “We have no answers, but we have a lot of questions.” We’re sure King couldn’t help but wonder what will happen to Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte.

And Just Like That… saw Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis all reprise their characters from the original series, which aired from 1998 to 2004 on HBO.

The new series brought the well-heeled and high-heeled trio in their 50s to a post-pandemic Manhattan. There was much less sex this time around (other than an aggressively awkward hook-up involving a bottle of urine) and a lot more, er, death by Peleton and the words, “Hey, it’s Che Diaz!”, over and over again.

As the show came to an end earlier this year, fans were left with a laundry list of lingering questions. From Miranda’s exploration of her queer identity to Charlotte’s quest to rule the school board – it’s still Sex and the City, after all.

But the show wasn’t without controversy. Chris Noth, who starred in the reboot as Carrie’s steely husband, Mr Big, was accused by multiple women of sexual assault. He denied the allegations.

Willie Garson, who starred as the sharp-tongued talent agent Stamford Blatch, heartbreakingly passed away from pancreatic cancer in September. Though he shot some scenes, his character was written out of the latter half of the show.

While news that Kim Cattrall, who played the vivacious PR boss Samantha Jones, would not be returning for the reboot reignited long-running wounds between her and the cast.
