In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can find and catch a Munchlax in the wild, but it is one of the rarest spawns in the game. Traditionally, the easiest way players have ever been able to obtain a Munchlax is by breeding a Snorlax holding the Full Incense, but unfortunately, both breeding and the Full Incense are not part of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While several Pokémon games in the franchise have made Munchlax available to catch in the wild, it has always been one of the rarest Pokmon to encounter.
Finding rare Pokémon encounters in Legends: Arecus is unlike finding Alpha Pokémon, who spawn in the same location every time even though there will only ever be one Alpha Pokémon in that area. Instead, rare Pokémon spawn in as a substitute for one of the other Pokémon in a given area, which means they can be anywhere in the general vicinity. Unfortunately, this makes finding Pokémon like Munchlax difficult, as the Pokémon in its area are already spread thin from spawn point to spawn point.
Munchlax can be found in two different locations throughout Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the first being in Obsidian Fieldlands and the second in Alabaster Icelands. In Obsidian Fieldlands, players will need to travel to Deertrack Heights to find Munchlax. The Alabaster Icelands location is at Snowfall Hot Spring, the same place where players can find and catch a Lucario in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While the Obsidian Fieldlands encounter is near the beginning of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it is a much more challenging find because the Pokémon in the area aren’t so close to one another.
Catching & Evolving Munchlax in Pokémon Legends: Arceus
To catch Munchlax easily, players should consider throwing an item like the Oran Berry to lure Munchlax away, then throwing a Poké Ball at its back for an increased catch success rate. Depending on how players have progressed in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they will have better odds of catching Munchlax by using better Poké Balls. For example, players in the early stages of the game will only have access to the Heavy Ball by the time they reach Deertrack Heights. Meanwhile, those looking for a Munchlax in Snowfall Hot Spring will have access to Leaden Balls by Star Rank level four in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, an improved version of the Heavy Ball.
Players just need to raise their Friendship stat to evolve Munchlax into Snorlax. Like many other baby-Pokémon, Munchlax can evolve on any level as long as the Friendship stat is high enough. It’s definitely easier to raise the Friendship stat by having Munchlax win battles and level up, but thankfully the Friendship stat can also be increased by having Munchlax smash rocks and collect materials in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
