Bethenny Frankel Doesn’t Have To Pay Jason Hoppy Child Support Anymore

Reality TV

The divorce of Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy seemed to be one of the longest in the history of divorce. At least in the Bravo world. The contentious breakup had big money settlement demands and charges of harassment. Back in 2017, Jason was charged with aggravated assault after he approached Bethenny and her friend at her daughter Bryn Hoppy’s school. He allegedly told Bethenny, “I will destroy you, you can get all the lawyers you want, you’ve been warned.”

Thankfully, the divorce was finally settled this year, but the battle for custody of Bryn only intensified. As reported by Page Six, Bethenny’s attorney, Allan Mayefsky, asked the judge to allow Bethenny to stop paying for child support. Reason being that Bryn has chosen to primarily live with Bethenny. The exes have a 50/50 custody agreement. But Allan also requested to modify the custody schedule so Bryn would spend less time with her dad.

Allan added, “We have put in a schedule that Bryn can be comfortable with that the court can order so we don’t have these constant fights going on. We need to recognize that Ms. Frankel is the primary parent … she should not be paying child support at this point.” Both Bethenny and her attorney argued that Bryn has been suffering from anxiety, hyperventilation and hives. She has also refused to go and see her dad on certain occasions.

But Bethenny wants to make it clear that she doesn’t intend to keep Bryn from Jason. She said, “I want her to see her father. I know how important it is for a child to have a good relationship with both parents.”

At the hearing, Bethenny told the judge, “Whatever you put on paper, that’s great for structure, but she is a living, breathing thing and she won’t always go.” Jason attended the hearing with no lawyer. He also read a statement saying that he wouldn’t go against Bethenny’s requests. Jason told the judge, “This is not a Bryn issue or an issue that Bryn has with me. Therefore, I’m removing myself of this fight — for Bryn and my physical, emotional and mental health.”

He continued, “I will not spend the remainder of Bryn’s childhood fighting as we share joint physical custody. Bryn knows I love her, I want her and I will always be available for our time together.” The judge ruled that if Jason agreed to Bethenny’s motion “then the relief that is sought will be granted.” Jason responded, “I’m removing myself from this toxic environment. It’s not good for myself or Bryn.” As if Jason himself didn’t contribute to the toxic environment at all.

Once the hearing was over, the judge said, “I’m hoping that this will be the last time that I need to see you. I think both parties have spent quite a bit of time in court litigating these issues. I hope by making a minor adjustment to the schedule, it will make things more comfortable for Bryn.”
