Young Sheldon season 5 is underway in the U.S., with new episodes coming out every Thursday night on CBS, but here’s where and how to watch it in the UK. The show can be streamed on HBO Max in the U.S., but the same is not possible for other territories where the CBS show is distributed, as the platform has still not rolled out globally. In the UK, HBO Max won’t be available till 2025, and the rights to broadcast Warner Brothers Television’s productions are usually negotiated differently from country to country.
The Big Bang Theory prequel spinoff focuses on a young Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) and his childhood in East Texas, narrated by adult Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). The story follows Sheldon trying to navigate life as an 11-year-old about to start high school and his pursuits of higher education, often affecting his family’s everyday life. Like The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon was created by Chuck Lorre, this time in conjunction with Steven Molaro. Since its release in 2017, it’s become almost as popular a show as its predecessor as audiences tune in to see how Sheldon progresses into the character they first knew from Big Bang Theory.
Despite not being on HBO Max, Young Sheldon, like The Big Bang Theory, is available to watch in the UK on multiple platforms, either to buy or to stream. Young Sheldon seasons 1 to 3 became available on Netflix from the start of November, ready to be binge-watched or consumed more slowly in its original format of conventional television. It can be streamed for a monthly price varying from £5.99 to £13.99, depending on the type of subscription chosen. Season 4 is not yet available to stream in its entirety as channel E4 is currently broadcasting new episodes in the UK, and past episodes of the seasons can be viewed on Channel 4’s website. As a result of an ongoing agreement between Channel 4 and Sky Television, which provides Sky TV customers access to E4’s online offering, Young Sheldon’s latest episodes can also be viewed on Sky Go. Seasons 1 to 3 are available to buy on Sky Store, either together for £39.99 or individually for a price ranging from £13.99 to £17.99, depending on the season.
Distribution for Young Sheldon’s seasons works the same way for Microsoft, Google Play, Prime Video, Apple TV, and Virgin Media. All four seasons can be bought at different prices, ranging from £19.49 to £22.99 each on the Microsoft store, £17.99 to £19.49 each on Google Play, £17.99 to £22.99 each on the Virgin Media store, and £17.99 each on Prime Video and Apple TV. On all of them, season 4 has only the episodes that have already aired on E4 available, with the Microsoft store also offering a “series pass” for the whole season, meaning that for that season’s price, viewers get all current and future episodes. Alternatively, and more similarly to Netflix, BT TV only offers seasons 1 to 3, each available to buy at £15.99.
Granted, Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon may not be as easy to locate as other TV shows on permanent platforms. Nevertheless, its availability on many of them offers viewers the chance to consume it however they prefer. If not particularly keen on streaming platforms or online services, viewers can simply choose to wait for new episodes of Young Sheldon to air now that they know where to find it.
