Below Deck is off to another rag tag start this season with Captain Lee Rosbach joining his crew late yet again. While we’re all relieved to see the stud of the sea back in his rightful throne, it was a definite treat to see how Captain Sean Meagher managed the super yacht in his stead. Captain Sean had high standards for how things should be done on the boat. And while bosun Eddie Lucas wasn’t too impressed, it seems Captain Sean is willing to put his money where his mouth/demands are.
Captain Sean told Showbiz Cheatsheet about the shocking amount of money he and his crew are used to raking in. He explained that he’s been on charters where the crew made enough in tips to put down a hefty downpayment on a house! Sounds nice! He said, “I had junior stews on that boat, this is back in 2006, making like $200,000 a year. We killed it on that boat.”
Former franchise deckhand Joao Franco has also bragged about the cash flow on super yachts. In 2019 he shared that it wasn’t uncommen to make about $45k in tips in just one summer season. Captain Sean added, “So that’s why when these guys talk about tips like I chuckle to myself because it’s like you guys don’t freaking know what real tips are.”
Curious to know what a *real* tip is? Captain Sean revealed, “Biggest tip I ever got was $82,000 for a 10-day charter that cost $150,000. Like if I don’t pull 20%, I did something wrong.” No wonder this guys’ standards are to the moon.

So far as I can tell, during his time on My Seanna Captain Sean did everything right. That is, despite running his crew ragged in the meantime. So did he make any jingle during his time on the charter? Captain Lee said he “definitely” gave Captain Sean half of his own tip for kicking off the season.
In general, even though the captain isn’t seen getting tip money, they always do. Same goes for the off-camera personnel like the engineers. Lee explained, “Everyone on board gets tipped even the crew of which there may be up to 3 get tipped. Everyone shares.”
