Former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, will be guest starring in Black-ish for the show’s final season. Black-ish is an American sitcom that first premiered on September 24, 2014, and has gained critical acclaim over the course of its seven seasons. The series follows Dre Johnson (Anthony Anderson) as he struggles to maintain his cultural identity while raising a family with wife Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) in an upper class and predominantly white neighborhood. Black-ish has garnered praise for its diverse casting, tackling of cultural and social issues, and award-winning performances from Anderson and Ross. The series was renewed for an 8th, and final, season that will premiere in 2022.
As announced by the Black-ish Twitter page, the series will be hosting Michelle Obama as a guest star for season 8. The announcement was made alongside a photo of the Former First Lady surrounded by the cast of Black-ish. The series, which premiered during Barack Obama’s Presidency, has long referenced the Obama family in various episodes. The Johnsons even dressed up as the Obamas for Halloween one year, and Obama’s inauguration footage was integrated into the 2016 episode, “Hope.” Now, the Johnsons will get to meet the Former First Lady face to face before the end of their series.
