Marvel’s Batman Wants Infinity Stones For The Most Selfish Reason

Movies

Warning! Spoilers for Black Cat #10 by Marvel Comics below.

Black Cat isn’t the only Marvel Comics hero after the Infinity Stones, as Nighthawk just told her that he’s also seeking out the powerful gems. However, Marvel’s version of Batman doesn’t just want to restore his own universe, but he wants to bring back a world where he and Black Cat were together. Unsurprisingly, Felicia Hardy has no interest in making that happen.

Nighthawk is Marvel’s pastiche of Batman, who is a longtime member of the Squadron Supreme. In the recent Heroes Reborn event, Mephisto and Agent Coulson rewrote reality to make Marvel’s Justice League Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a world without the Avengers. In that world, Nighthawk had a previous relationship with Black Cat and had his own extended Bat-Family, which included Gwen Stacy as Nightbird (Batgirl). That reality eventually crumbled after the reawakened Avengers restored the Marvel Universe. But, now, Nighthawk is trying to acquire the Infinity Stones to bring it back.

In Black Cat #10 by Jed MacKay, C.F. Villa, Brian Reber, and Ferran Delgado, Felica Hardy finds herself being chased by Nighthawk. After coming face-to-face with the hero, Nighthawk tells her she doesn’t remember their relationship and starts recounting details about her life, including her full name, her interests in music, the death of her mom, and what she’s allergic to. Nighthawk tells her that he wants to restore the reality where they were together and help her steal the Infinity Stones. However, Black Cat isn’t interested in being with Nighthawk and says she doesn’t want to be in a reality where her mom is dead – a key difference between both worlds.

Felicia Hardy has never been with Nighthawk in Marvel’s main reality, so his plea to let him help her track down the Infinity Stones falls on deaf ears. And honestly, why would Felicia help him? Nighthawk’s reason for wanting to restore the Heroes Reborn universe is entirely selfish. There’s no incentive for her to rewrite her own reality just to please him. Plus, she doesn’t know that his version of Black Cat broke up with him and suggested he go to therapy to deal with his own issues. Nighthawk is being creepy.

In the end, Nighthawk is incredibly selfish by even suggesting Black Cat join his quest in restoring the Heroes Reborn universe. Did he seriously think she would agree to his insane request to bring back a world that solely benefits him? Ultimately, Felicia tells Nighthawk she has no interest in doing so and tells him to shove it. Black Cat #10 is in comic book stores now.
