JoJo Fletcher Says Her The Bachelorette Contract Prevented Her From Doing Dancing With The Stars

Reality TV

JoJo Fletcher started some rumors that she might be the next member of Bachelor Nation to land on Dancing with the Stars. According to US Weekly, the Season 12 Bachelorette caused a stir when her fans realized that she was in Los Angeles for a work project.

On August 30, 2021, JoJo set the record straight about the ballroom chatter. She posted in her Instagram Stories, responding to a fan’s question about Season 30 of DWTS. “LOL Everyone DMing me this!” JoJo wrote.

“I’m not, but funny story — I was supposed to do @DancingABC after my season of Bachelorette but ended up not being able to bc of my contract.” She added two crying-laughing emojis and a GIF of Napoleon Dynamite. JoJo added, “Womp womp. Not sure America could have handled my super sweet dance moves anyways.”

In 2016, JoJo accepted a big diamond sparkler from Jordan Rodgers during her big season finale. She would have been in good company on DWTS. The last two winners, Hannah Brown and Kaitlyn Bristowe, were also both former Bachelorettes. Kaitlyn had a rocky road to finally achieve her dream of being in the ballroom.

When Nick Viall, who appeared on The Bachelorette (twice) and was also The Bachelor, was added to the DWTS cast in 2017 it caused some major drama. After all, Nick was Kaitlyn’s ex.

In response to Nick’s casting on Season 24, Whitney Bischoff, who was once Chris Soules’ beloved fiancee tweeted “@people why does a bachelorette never get this gig @BachelorABC?!? I wanted to see @kaitlynbristowe shake her tail feather!”

Kaitlyn was obviously upset for the same reason, and she tweeted, “Actually I was offered it, had the contract & Mike Fleiss told me I wasn’t allowed. He said he didn’t want people wanting fame after his show.”

Kaitlyn issued a statement to Entertainment Tonight further explaining the situation. “I believe men and women should be afforded the same opportunities. That has not been the case with The Bachelorettes and The Bachelors,” she said. “I had an offer to do Dancing With The Stars and was told by [Bachelor creator] Mike [Fleiss] I could not. I was told by Mike that it is bad for his brand, and that he is sick of people wanting fame from his show.”

Kaitlyn continued, “I am a dancer and wanted to do it, [my fiancé] Shawn [Booth] wanted me to as well. I told Mike it was my passion. I was told Shawn should be my only passion.” Oof. Not cool.

JoJo echoed the same experience in an interview with Refinery29 in 2017. When asked if she would be interested in being on DWTS, JoJo said, “Yeah, I would have. But some contractual things kinda got in the way.”
