Colt Johnson, who is a big star from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, is known not only for his failed romances but also for his notable relationship with his mother Debbie. The matriarch has a big personality and sometimes a short temper, which could be related to Colt’s attraction to explosive women. Fans have called Colt a “mama’s boy” for living at home for so long, but Colt is happy to ignore their criticism. The mother-son duo may butt heads from time to time, but for better or worse, Colt is dedicated to sticking by the woman who gave him life.
Colt has been living with his mother Debbie in Las Vegas since before he first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé season 6, and their cohabitation has often caused friction in Colt’s relationships. Colt’s first wife Larissa Lima got into several iconic screaming matches with Debbie, and Debbie didn’t approve of Colt’s next girlfriend, Jess Caroline, either. However, despite the trouble she’s caused in his personal life, Colt still lives with his mom and even filmed the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off Love Games with her. The pair has a close connection, and Colt is now revealing why that dynamic is so important to him.

Colt Johnson told Screen Rant in an exclusive interview: “My mother’s definitely getting older, and I’m getting older. I’m not going to abandon her or leave her anywhere.” The reality star cares about his mom but has also made efforts to set boundaries with her and stop her from meddling in his relationships. Colt is still looking to develop a life apart from Debbie, but will always have her wellbeing at heart. “I still want to make sure that her needs and comforts are met, and her quality of life [is good],” he said.
Living with a parent can certainly be stressful at times, and though Colt is becoming more independent, he still wants to keep his mom close. “I suppose the best situation would be. She’s in an apartment down the street or across town. Maybe a mother-in-law house or studio or something,” Colt mused. Having Debbie live in an adjacent apartment is definitely a step up from living in the same house with her, but Colt may still have a hard time finding a partner who is willing to get on board with that dynamic.
Colt might be comfortable with moving out, but is Debbie? She’s gotten used to her son being so close to her for so long that it might not be an easy adjustment, at least at first. When asked about how his mother would feel about him moving out, Colt replied, “I think she’d be a little scared and nervous, living by [her]self. But she’d be good. She’s done it before I was around, and she’d be fine after.” Living with his feisty mom Debbie can cause problems, but Colt also said: “I can’t imagine my life without my mother close by at this point.”
There are certainly some unique challenges that come from living with Debbie. For now, however, Colt seems comfortable with where he’s at. The 90 Day Fiancé star had trouble in the past finding a woman who his mom would approve of. Now, Colt is attempting to pursue a relationship with his friend Vanessa Guerra, who already has Debbie’s seal of approval. Things could be looking up for Colt, and he might need to start looking for conjoined apartments.
