Shep Rose Says Landon Clements Had Trouble Figuring Out Who She Wanted To Be On TV

The current era of Southern Charm‘s main source of controversy is Madison LeCroy, Austen Kroll and their various relationships A-List celebrities (and athletes). But, true fans will never forget where it all started.

It was really the drama between Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis that put the show on the map. It remained a central plot for seasons to come (even in his absence). And while there have been many villains in the show’s history (cough cough Ashley Jacobs), Landon Clements is definitely a name that’s hard to forget.

Landon entered the Southern Charm world post-divorce when she was starting over, on a houseboat no less. She lasted several seasons before leaving during last year’s mass-exodus where we lost Thomas, Cameran Eubanks, Naomie Olindo, Chelsea Meissner and Ashley. Before she left to return to the West Coast to pursue a real estate career (and probably another millionaire bachelor), she took the time to set fire to nearly every relationship she had on the show.

Now, Shep Rose (who Landon admitted her love to him once for a storyline) is defending his old pal.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shep says that Landon was misunderstood by fans. Maybe, but that still doesn’t change that the cameras caught her flirting with everything that moves. Plus, she put herself dead in the middle of the Kathryn/Thomas drama.

“I think Landon, my friend Landon — hi Landon, if you’re out there — she had trouble about who she wanted to be on the TV,” Shep said. “And sometimes she was snarky, and sometimes she was the hippie girl, and the audience ate her alive for that. And so you got to pick a lane and show your real personality.”

The reality TV vet gave his opinion on what it takes to be a likable reality character. It’s kind of ironic that this advice is coming from the Shep. He’s had his fair share of controversies, but he has been around the block for quite a while.

“It takes you a couple of seasons to realize that, be honest, be yourself and the audience will like you for that,” he said. “And if you try to be someone else, you will be called out on it. And rightfully so.

While Landon‘s Bravo days are over, she still remains friendly with Shep and his new girlfriend Taylor Ann Green. At least according to Instagram. Shep is speaking highly of his old friend, we definitely can’t say the same for his recent comments about the Madison and Alex Rodriguez drama. Is it time for season 8 yet?
