Apex Legends Dev Respawn Entertainment Hints At New IP With Job Listing

Movies

It looks like Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment is planning to start work on a new IP soon, according to a recent job listing by the company. The developer is keeping itself pretty busy these days, with the studio just releasing the latest entry in the long-running Medal of Honor series earlier this month. But instead of a traditional first-person shooter, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is a VR game that actually provides a competent virtual reality shooter experience albeit not really offering anything groundbreaking.

Respawn Entertainment is also busy working on the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, one of the more successful games from last year, with EA confirming several months ago that it plans to turn the game into a new franchise. While there’s no information on what Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 will feature with its story, characters, or setting, it’s definitely one of the titles that the developer is currently working on. Apart from its Star Wars games, Respawn Entertainment is reportedly still working on its original series Titanfall with leaks claiming that the Titanfall 3 is in some shape or form in development at the studio.

As for this latest job listing from Respawn Entertainment, which was posted on the company’s website, it states that the studio is looking for a Generalist Software Engineer for a new IP incubation team. The listing further describes that the position will be part of a new team that will be working on a brand new IP for the company. The listing also states that the company wants to develop new technologies that will allow “adventuring forever” with a focus on “gameplay and good feel.” No information on what the new IP will be was mentioned though.

Notably, the job listing by Respawn also mentions the company’s emphasis on nurturing one’s life-work balance as well as having a “hard-zero policy against crunch and overtime,” both of which have been important topics in the game development history recently. The studio recently addressed issues players had with the latest season of Apex Legends, citing that the reason why progression in the battle pass was generally slower than before was due to the studio refusing to allow crunch just to come out with more content.

It’s definitely exciting to see how far Respawn Entertainment has come since its controversial forming 10 years ago, with several popular games now under their belt. Hopefully this new team the studio is developing will be able to come out with another hit title while still maintaining the company’s declared stance against crunch.
