“Special Delivery” by Keish Strong

Music, News

Detroit rapper and hip hop star Keish Strong is taking the bedroom talk out of the bedroom and it’s riveting. Her “Special Delivery” is a not an ode to the United States Postal Service by any stretch of the means. It teeters on sexual overt language and keeps the listener bopping along. “Special Delivery” is the right song to get stuck in your head and take up residence – it’s extra hooky chorus paired with a catchy beat is incredibly fun.

Whomever she’s directing her affections towards is in for a wild, pinkalicious night. She’s giving a preview of a lingerie-filled evening and that unrelenting beat packs a powerful punch. The voices on the track – a mix of sing-say and slow-flow – are presumably Strong. She has a middle-range voice, that fuses together sensuality and a bit of flirty. In other words, she’s really fun. She’s edgy enough that the real old-school, purists will want that grit; she’s also soft enough where the pop-loving listeners won’t feel intimidated. She really has a spark to her, something, well, special. She gives the listener a quick view to who she is an artist, but I think she will continue to release songs that give a deeper meaning and autobiographical report.

The song bed, too, is not overbearing. The foundation is clean and it’s a pointed effort. I think if you’re looking that is rooted in the East Coast hip hop world, “Special Delivery” is a great start. She doesn’t throw in the kitchen sink and keeps the attention to her voice and that crazy beat. At the song’s bridge I did hear some piano and she even mixes in some moaning. That was unexpected, okay, not really, but it works. Starting with your lips…I got a special delivery…pink lace on, all night long, she raps. It’s the prelude to what I have planned for you, she raps in one line. I’m giving all my love and it’s only for you, she slays. Now imagine those lines with this awesome beat running dribbles drills around it and it’s tops. It just runs through your mind over and over – in case you haven’t figured that out from my review yet.

“Today, the Detroit-based rapper stands tall as one of the most standout female artists in the game since Eve rode in with the Ruff Ryders,” Strong’s bio states. I loved the comparison to Grammy-winning Eve. I do think there are many similarities, and as her career evolves, we might even see Strong on the big screen. She has that charisma that just comes across very naturally in “Special Delivery”. Until then, she’s packing the beats and dropping fire in songs like “Special Delivery, “Ice Cream Party” and “Why You Mad”. She expects to release her album Doin My Thing this November. Her bio also states that she had many obstacles from her past that she’s overcame. It’s evident from “Special Delivery” that she’s on her way. This song is a triumphant win for an artist/rapper on her way. Be sure to keep Keish Strong’s name on your go-to playlist.
