MTV VMAs 2020: The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Wins Video of the Year

Music, News

The Weeknd has won Video of the Year during tonight’s 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. His visual for “Blinding Lights,” directed by Anton Tammi, beat out videos from Billie Eilish (“everything I wanted”), Eminem and Juice WRLD (“Godzilla”), Taylor Swift (“The Man”), Future and Drake (“Life is Good”), and Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande (“Rain on Me”). The song was originally released as a single from the Weeknd’s latest album After Hours.

Abel Tesfaye kept his speech simple, asking for justice for Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor. Earlier in the night, he performed on a rooftop backed by fireworks, a helicopter, and some blinding lights.
