Southern Charm Episodes Temporarily Taken Down Due To “Racially Charged Moments”

We all know that Southern Charm is a problematic show, especially thanks to (but not limited to) Thomas Ravenel and the many sexual assault allegations between them. Recently, Kathryn Dennis came under fire for using the monkey emoji to refer to a Black woman in a DM conversation.

Last year, Shep Rose mocked a homeless woman and doubled down on his “jokes” before he eventually caved with a half-ass apology. We all know that “good people” don’t necessarily make for the best TV content, but do we really want to watch awful people saying and doing awful things? Well, recently, Bravo has decided to re-examine shows that have already aired, on the look out for racial insensitivities and outright racist behaviors.

A Bravo spokesperson confirmed to Variety that four episodes of Southern Charm have been taken down from the app and the video-on-demand services because they contained “racially charged moments.” Apparently, “three of them have been put back up on BravoTV.com and to the Bravo app, and will soon return to VOD. (Re-loading something onto cable and satellite on-demand services takes longer.) The fourth episode will also return, but with a scene set at a plantation removed from it.” So, does that mean the other three were edited? Or not? Very unclear, bravo.

This all came to light when a TikTok user @thetalkofshame shared a video about noticing the missing episodes. She managed to watch the missing episodes and shared one of the disturbing scenes. Thomas Ravenel’s father Arthur said he wanted to get rid of $5 bills because Abraham Lincoln was on them.

In another episode, Kathryn gave a tour of her family’s plantation. That scene will be removed as well. It’s unclear, at this moment, which scenes were removed from other episodes.
