Created by Mary Laws and based on Nathan Ballingrud’s short story collection “North American Lake Monsters,“ Hulu‘s anthology series “Monsterland” is currently in the casting process, and THR brings us word today that Kelly Marie Tran (The Last Jedi) has signed on.

The known cast of the monster-themed anthology series also includes Jonathan Tucker (“Hannibal”), Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Taylor Schilling (The Prodigy) and Mike Colter (“Evil”).

“Encounters with mermaids, fallen angels and other strange beasts drive broken people to desperate acts in an attempt to repair their lives, ultimately showing there is a thin line between man and monster.”

THR details, “Tran will star in an episode titled “Iron River, MI” in which she’ll play Lauren, who returns to her small Michigan hometown to be married. She had managed to build a new life for herself after her best friend, Elena, went missing when they were 16.”

Mary Laws is the creator, writer and executive producer of “Monsterland.”
