Philip Glass’ Music in Eight Parts Gets First Release, 50 Years After Composition: Listen

The Philip Glass Ensemble has recorded and released Music in 8 Parts, a 1970 Philip Glass that had been lost for decades. According to The New York Times, the composition had its premiere in January 1970, arriving after Glass’ Music for Fifths but before Music With Changing Parts and Music in 12 Parts.

Glass’ Music in 8 Parts manuscript had been lost for decades until resurfacing in 2017 at a Christie’s auction where it sold for $43,750. Hear the ensemble’s new recording below (via Orange Mountain Music)
