Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger Hospitalized With COVID-19

Music, News

Adam Schlesinger, the singer-songwriter behind Fountains of Wayne and various film and TV soundtracks, has been in the hospital for more than a week with COVID-19, Variety and Rolling Stone report. The 52-year-old’s girlfriend, Alexis Morley, confirmed the news via Schlesinger’s agent in a statement to Pitchfork.

“He is on a ventilator and has been sedated to facilitate his recovery. He is in critical condition but his condition is improving slightly and we are cautiously optimistic,” Morley said. Contrary to some reports, he is not in a medically induced coma.

As well as performing in Fountains of Wayne and Ivy, Schlesinger specializes in writing songs performed by film and TV characters. His repertoire includes the title track to the 1996 film That Thing That You Do!—which was nominated for an Oscar the following year—as well as “Way Back Into Love” from Music and Lyrics and original songs for the musical-comedy TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
