“Where’s My Big Toe?” Classic Scary Story Comes to Life in This Creepy Short Horror Film [Video]

Featured in Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the classic folk tale often referred to as “The Big Toe” has now been turned into a stop motion short simply titled Toe.

Directed by Neal O’Bryan and Chad Thurman, with puppet fabrication courtesy of Demi Kay Schlehofer, Toe was uploaded by ALTER today, and it’s a real treat for Scary Stories fans.

The eerie black & white short, which runs 7-minutes long, plays out like Stephen Gammell’s unsettling Scary Stories illustrations come to life, with a whole lot of Tim Burton in the mix.

In Toe, “A starving boy eats a toe he finds protruding from the ground. Later that night, something dead comes to his home wanting it back.”

The crew includes composer Flora Cheng, voice actor Cassie Carey, and prop builder Truc Nguyen. Chad Thurman and Neal O’Bryan, in addition to directing, were the animators.
