Fans of Netflix‘s latest new comedy-drama series are already looking forward to Gentefied season 2, so here’s what we know so far about its renewal status and possible premiere date. Set in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Mexican-themed series follow three cousins who battle against gentrification and culture vultures. Gentefied season 1 released in February 2020 and was co-produced by America Ferrera.

Gentefied season 1 revolves around a Los Angeles taco shop. When Pop (Joaquín Cosío; Narcos: Mexico) struggles to pay rent money, his three grandchildren devise plans to promote the business. Unfortunately, not everybody in the neighborhood appreciates the revised menu. Gentefied season 1 on Netflix follows the main characters as they try to support each other while thinking about the future. The main cast includes Karrie Martin as Ana, Joseph Julian Soria as Erik, and Carlos Santos as Chris.

In the Gentefied season 1 finale, the main crew celebrates the impending arrival of Erik’s son. Here’s everything we expect for Gentefied season 2 on Netflix.

Gentefied Season 2 Renewal

Gentefied Season 1 on Netflix

Netflix hasn’t yet ordered Gentefied season 2. The streaming service usually makes renewal decisions within a couple of months after release, so fans should expect news by the end of April 2020. The series has been well-received thus far, but Netflix will want to know if subscribers are fully invested in the series as a whole or whether they’re just checking out the first few episodes. At this point, because of its strong reviews and Netflix’s strategy of flooding the streaming market with new content, it seems likely that Gentefied season 2 will indeed be ordered and produced in 2020.

Gentefied Season 1 on Netflix

Gentefied season 1 ends with Ana enjoying her first art exhibition, only to learn that Mama Fina’s Boyle Heights location will soon become Monaco Terrace. She lashes out in public, which oddly makes her work even more intriguing to potential buyers. Meanwhile, Erik worries about being a father but calms down after the birth of newborn Delfina. As for Chris, he embraces the idea of a running Pop’s business with Erik, but then learns that his father – “El Cucuy” – is willing to fund his Parisian cooking school expenses. In the final moments of Gentefied season 1 on Netflix, Pop is arrested and detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

It’s possible that Pop might not be present during Gentefied season 2. After all, Cosio’s other Netflix character in Narco: Mexico plays a minor role in the second season after being a major figure in the first installment. It seems likely that Gentefied season 2 will focus on the personal growth of Ana, Erik, and Chris without Pop at their side. First, however, they need to figure out how to protect Mama Fina’s. For the rest of Gentefied season 2 on Netflix, expect the three main protagonist to establish a new Boyle Heights culinary legacy while simultaneously pursuing their individual goals.
