Bassist Juan Alderete (The Mars Volta, Marilyn Manson) in Coma Following Bicycle Accident

Music, News

Bassist Juan Alderete—a member of the Mars Volta and touring player for Marilyn Manson and Deltron 3030, among others—suffered a traumatic brain injury as the result of a bicycle accident on January 13, his wife Anne Alderete revealed via Instagram. The musician sustained what is known as a diffuse axonal injury and is currently in a coma. “The only prognosis is to wait and see, as the brain is a complicated organ and the outcomes for DAI patients has a range as wide as the sea,” Anne Alderete explained. “While frustrating, it also allows for a world of positive outcomes so we can only hope for the best.” Find her full announcement below.

Cedric Bixler-Zavala hinted at a Mars Volta reunion back in May 2019. He and Alderete founded a new band, Zavalaz, alongside Dan Elkan and Gregory Rogove, back in 2013.
