Original Score for Jordan Peele’s “Us” Could Be An Oscar Contender

Horror

Horror in any form isn’t usually acknowledged by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Only a hand full of films that live in the genre have gotten any kind of notoriety from them. From Silence of the Lambs to Get Out and The Shape of Water, more of them are being given the credit that they deserve but it’s still few and far between.

Maybe this year will be different. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its shortlists in consideration for the 92nd Oscars in nine categories last night and fifteen scores advanced on in the Best Original Score category, most importantly, the Michael Abels scored Us.

The fact that it’s made this list proves that another horror film could have at least one nomination come time to give out the big gold statues. Jordan Peele already won for Best Original Screenplay back in 2018 for Get Out.

Could this mean more gold for the auteur? Find out on February 9, 2020, when the 92nd Academy Awards air!
