The Rise of Skywalker Gets a Retro-Style Star Wars Throwback Poster

Movies

The RealD 3D poster for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has some major A New Hope vibes. This is the second poster of the day, following the epic IMAX version. Disney and Lucasfilm are bringing out the big guns for the early promotion and it looks like Star Wars fans are starting to get even more excited than they were before. Part of that excitement comes from The Mandalorian Disney+ series, which has been getting positive reviews from even the most negative fans of the franchise.

The RealD 3D poster for The Rise of Skywalker looks like it could have been made back in 1977 when A New Hope was released in theaters. We’ve got Kylo Ren and The First Order at the top, taking up the darkness of space, while the Resistance is below, led by Rey as she wields her Lightsaber. Off in the distance we can see the Knights of Ren lurking in the background. It’s a subtle poster that gets the point across very well. One can imagine a lot of Star Wars fans will want to get their hands on one.

J.J. Abrams had to look toward the past in order to bring an end to the Skywalker Saga. A new TV spot for Star Wars 9 features John Williams’ “Duel of Fates,” which is the theme for The Phantom Menace. Elsewhere, there are nods to the past everywhere with the return of Emperor Palpatine and even the Ewoks. A lot of care and effort went into making sure everything was taken care of within the movie and Abrams is confident that they made the best movie that they possibly could.

We’re now about three weeks away from The Rise of Skywalker hitting theaters and we have been treated to a lot of new looks at the movie over the past few weeks. With that being said, we still do not have a firm grasp of what the main story will be about, other than some speculation. J.J. Abrams and the Lucasfilm team have done an excellent job of revealing quite a bit, but never giving away too much. Abrams remembers what it was like to head into the movies and see something for the first time and he wants Star Wars fans to experience the movie the way people did when the original trilogy hit theaters.

The Rise of Skywalker is wrapping up 40+ years of storytelling and will be the last Star Wars movie in theaters for a while. Disney and Lucasfilm are putting the focus on the small screen for the time being, which seems to be working out just fine with The Mandalorian. Plus, we have the Rogue One prequel series on the way and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series too. There’s a lot to look forward to.
