Christian Bale Won’t Go Fat or Skinny for Future Roles After Ford V Ferarri

Christian Bale says he’s done with intense weight fluctuation for his movie roles. The 45-year old actor has put his body through quite a bit of weight changes over the past few years. Bale takes his job as an actor very seriously and throws himself into his roles. However, it sounds like the days of eating an apple and a can of tuna every day are over, as are the days of eating everything in sight.

“I keep saying I’m done with it,” Bale said in a new interview. “I really think I’m done with it, yeah.” The actor is out currently promoting his latest movie, Ford V Ferrari, which opens next week. For the role, he had to lose 70 pounds from his previous role as former Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice. To properly play Dick Cheney, Bale decided that a fat suit would not be the way to go. Instead, he ate pies all day long and gained a massive amount of weight to get into character. Matt Damon stars alongside Bale in Ford v Ferrari and had this to say about his co-star’s weight loss journey.

“I had a great time watching him. He’s got an incredible monk-like discipline, like, when he had to lose – he went from Dick Cheney to this guy. So he had to lose 70 pounds.”

Christian Bale dropped 65 pounds for The Machinist, for his emaciating look in the movie. That’s where the apple and a can of tuna came into play. From there, Bale also lost weight for Rescue Dawn. He has taken on a variety of different roles, including Batman Begins, American Hustle, The Fighter, and many more. Each role has had a different physical aspect to it, which the actor committed to fully.

Before taking on the role in Ford v Ferrari, Christian Bale was considering taking part in Michael Mann’s planned Enzo Ferrari biopic. He later pulled out of the project over concerns of the health effects of gaining the extra weight to play the role, which would have been pretty quickly. Even Bale has his limits, which is probably good for his heart and his metabolism, which at 45, is starting to slow.

Christian Bale has pretty much tortured himself to entertain us on the big screen. An apple and a can of tuna a day would drive most of us insane, though he had doctor guidance. He may have gone off the deep end too without some help. Preparing to play Dick Cheney does sound fun since he got to sit around and eat pie all day. It even earned him a personal message from the former Vice President, who reportedly called him a “dick.” Apparently Cheney was not into Bale’s portrayal of him on the big screen. Entertainment Weekly was the first to report on Christian Bale’s weight fluctuations coming to a close.
