Ben Mendelsohn Drops F-Bombs Over Spider-Man’s Short Split from Marvel

Movies

Spider-Man: Far From Home star Ben Mendelsohn has some very strong feelings about Peter Parker staying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mendelsohn had a bigger part in Captain Marvel where he stole all of the scenes he was in. However, he brought Talos back for a small cameo in Far From Home, which shocked MCU fans. Speaking of shocked, that’s how the actor felt when he learned that Tom Holland almost didn’t return to the MCU after talks broke down between Sony and Marvel Studios over the summer.

Thankfully, Sony and Marvel Studios were able to come to an agreement to keep their Spider-Man partnership going. Had they not been able to make the deal, Ben Mendelsohn says, “It would have been a disaster.” And he’s probably right, but Mendelsohn took it one step further in an almost rant-like explanation of the events from over the summer. There is some rather colorful language, so read ahead at your own risk. Mendelsohn had this to say about his love of Peter Parker.

“S**t man. You can’t lose Spider-Man from the Marvel universe. He’s one of their absolute motherf***ing porn stars. Boy, I could name 30 that you could quite comfortably lose before you start thinking about losing Spider-Man. In fact, I cannot think of a single character who’s more important to Marvel than Spider-Man. You’ve got Hulk, you’ve got Thor… none of them are as important as Spider-Man. None of them.”

Yes, Ben Mendelsohn feels that strongly about Tom Holland sticking around as Peter Parker in the future of the MCU. Mendelsohn is not alone in his thoughts, which was completely evident over the summer when fans were, more or less, stating the same things. However, Mendelsohn took it to the next level with his analysis of the situation. Who would’ve thought we would have Holland touted as Marvel Studios’ “porn star?”

Ben Mendelsohn may have gone a bit overboard in his explanation, but it makes sense. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige went through hell to make sure the deal went through the first time when the Russo Brothers made the request. And still, the deal between the rival studios is practically unheard of. With that being said, it’s the work of both studios that makes a movie like Spider-Man: Far From Home such a hit. It would have been close, but not crossing the $1 billion threshold big.

Tom Holland will be back as Peter Parker in the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home and an undisclosed MCU project. But then, it looks like the deal with either need to be renegotiated or it will be over. Regardless, fans now have the information up front should be happy in knowing that this impressive feat was able to happen at all. Ben Mendelsohn should feel just as lucky. The interview with Mendelsohn was originally conducted by Metro.
