Movies

Patrick Wilson in In The Tall Grass

Another week has flown by, including some notable changes to the movie world. In addition to new reviews and breaking news about the industry, plenty of trailers have also made their debut during the past seven days. Marketing for movies is an especially important part of the process, especially where box office performance is concerned. As such, these new clips are hoping to drum up excitement for each new release, with some arriving sooner than others. This also includes Netflix, which has become a moviemaking machine that’s constantly releasing new exciting content.

Given how many trailers drop in a given week, I’ve taken it upon myself to keep CinemaBlend readers in touch with the latest footage arriving online. This week was no exception regarding new trailers, with a mixture of streaming content, theatrical releases, and follow-up trailers being release do help build anticipation for each respective release. Here are some of the clips you might have missed this past week.

In The Tall Grass

Netflix has become a juggernaut of content, and it’s certainly not slowing down anytime soon. Just in time for Halloween Season, In The Tall Grass is an upcoming Canadian horror drama coming to the streaming service. Based off the novella by Stephen King, the movie follows a pair of siblings who venture into a field of grass when hearing a boy’s cry for help, and find themselves in an insidious fight for their life. It stars Patrick Wilson and Laysla De Oliveira, and the trailer teases a trippy and terrifying experience. Vincenzo Natali’s movie will become available for streaming on October 4th.

The Rhythm Section

The Rhythm Section‘s title might make it sound like a movie about a group of percussionists, it’s anything but. Reed Morano’s upcoming spy thriller follows Stephanie Patric (Blake Lively), a woman who is trying to figure out the truth behind a plane crash that killed her family. Lively is almost unrecognizable in the first trailer, with short brown hair and a new accent helping to transform the actress. She’ll be playing opposite Jude Law, who is her ally on the dangerous quest for the truth that transforms Stephanie into an assassin. The movie will hit theaters on January 31st, 2020.

Knives Out Trailer 2

Rian Johnson’s Knives Out is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the fall season. The Last Jedi director followed up his Star Wars debut with a dark comedy, assembling a stellar cast to bring the story to life. The movie made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and initial reviews have been added to this trailer, alongside new footage from the campy mystery movie. Daniel Craig’s process as a detective take up much of this new footage, as well as the Thrombrey family’s reaction to the inquisition. It should be interesting to see if a sequel happens, depending on Knives Out‘s box office performance. The movie hits theaters November 27th.

Dark Waters

Dark Waters is an upcoming psychological thriller by Carol director Todd Haynes. Based on the true story of Robert Bilott, the movie follows as he discovers a connection to mysterious deaths and chemical company DuPont. Bilott is played by Mark Ruffalo, and the trailers teases his dark and dangerous attempt to unveil the truth to the public. Ruffalo has been getting some early Oscar buzz for his performance, and he’s joined by a strong cast including Anne Hathaway, Victor Garber, Bill Pullman, and American Horror Story‘s Mare Winningham. Dark Waters will be released in a few months, hitting theaters on November 22nd.

Clemency

Clemency is another drama hoping for some Oscar attention for its star. Written and directed by Chinonye Chukwu, the upcoming drama follows the life of Bernadine Williams, a death row prison warden. The stakes are obviously high and super emotional, with the trailer teasing an intense viewing experience. Williams maintains that she treats her inmates with respect, but she seemingly faces an adversary with a lawyer attempting to free his client before it’s too late. Clemency stars Luke Cage actress Alfre Woodard, with this first trailer including plenty of quotes about her strong performance in the film. The cast also includes Orange is the New Black‘s Danielle Brooks, Wendell Pierce, and Aldis Hodge. The movie will arrive in theaters on December 27th, competing with the likes of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

There are clearly a ton of upcoming projects hitting theaters over the next few months, some of which may release additional trailers. Be sure to check back with CinemaBlend for updates on all things trailers. And utilize our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
