90 Day Fiance The Other Way Recap: Walking a Tight Rope

Reality TV

Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way contained “the three D’s”, disappointment, demands, and delusion. I believe all three of these components are necessary for the success of this show.  You can’t possibly deal with any of this crazy sh!t, if you don’t have at least two on that list.

Please see the following examples: Deavan Clegg’s arrival to South Korea does not go as she expected.  Rehab Ronnie’s gambling addiction causes issues with Tiffany Franco. Let’s dig in and analyze the mess!

Deavan, 22 (Salt Lake City, Utah) & Jihoon, 29 (South Korea)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Walking a Tight Rope

Deavan and her infant son are officially on their way to South Korea. In preparation for his new family, Jihoon Lee has only managed to cut and color his hair. He doesn’t even have a car seat to pick up his son. Apparently, the car seat he ordered online was late to arrive. Deavan has to wait over an hour for her fiancé after being in the air for a day. She is livid when Jihoon finally arrives because she already had a car seat with her. Not only that, the one Jihoon bought was too big anyway. Shaking my head.

On the drive to his parents’ house, Jihoon reveals that they will not be living with his parents for a night, but rather several months. Ummm… sis, did you really think a man who just quit his job could afford to move out and support you? Chile, please you can’t even make this up.

Deavan is upset she was led to believe that Jihoon would take care of their living arrangements. She feels horrible that she will be bringing an infant and a toddler into such a small home. His parents agree that Jihoon needs to grow up and get his own house, eventually. Jihoon’s parents only have one bedroom. They will sleep in the living room so Deavan and the kids can be comfortable. The room isn’t even big enough for Jihoon and Deavan to sleep in the same bed. Wow, welcome to your new life!

Tiffany, 27 (Frederick, Maryland) & Ronald, 29 (South Africa)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Walking a Tight Rope

Tiffany has not only become Ronald Smith’s new wife, but also his warden. He wants to go to the store and his new wife will not allow him to go anywhere alone or have access to his own credit cards.  Frustrated when he realizes that Tiffany left his card at home and the store is about to close, he goes off.

For some reason, Tiffany believes that he is not owed trust because he just got out of rehab. Ummmm…. maybe you should have thought of that before you married the guy. Ronald has reached his limit and screams “the inconveniences stop today.”

Oh, Tiffany don’t you realize your incessant nagging could also push him to his old habits as well? Hell, the casino sounds a lot better than being chaperoned daily. So basically you have moved your child to a country where he will live behind an electric fence, for a man you have to watch constantly.

Tiffany and Ronald continue arguing about their trust issues. Although Ronald has apologized, Tiffany is still angry that her husband dares to want his own independence.

Tiffany has certainly changed since she got that ring on her finger. She was nice and accommodating until he married her and got her pregnant. I bet Ronald is regretting those decisions now. She pplays thevictim because he doesn’t want to be on a leash. In her mind, it’s his fault that she has these issues and needs to control his life. I might agree  IF he developed this problem after you were married and you were forced to endure this life.

Tiffany literally CHOSE to be with a man who is a gambling addict that she can’t trust not to steal all their money. So… I don’t feel sorry for you, Tiffany. Well, let’s see how long this lasts. She literally tricked him into thinking his issues weren’t a problem for her. Ronald promises not hurt her anymore. Sure….

Paul, 35 (Louisville, Kentucky) & Karine, 22 (Brazil)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Walking a Tight Rope

Paul Staehle hasn’t seen Karine Staehle since their huge fight. He is worried because his pregnant wife is due any day and has zero interest in seeing him. Paul calls his mother from the street and contemplates flying back to the United States.

He was just approved for a work visa and his mom convinces him to stay and try to make things work for his family. This man is truly pathetic. I don’t know how he has survived this long without his mother. Maybe the lock of hair she gave him is the only thing that has kept him afloat.

Karine’s father alerts Paul that his wife is in labor. After speaking with her at the hospital, she asks him to leave. He agrees to bring her a bag from their house, but he is not allowed in the delivery room.

Paul is heartbroken, but wants to attempt to fix his marriage one more time. Wow, Karine isn’t playing with Paul! His antics have driven her past the point of no return. I can’t say that I blame her. I wouldn’t want to be bothered with Paul either. But, unfortunately, he is good TV. Therefore Karine, I need you two to continue to interact for our viewing pleasure. Insert shrug emoji here.

Corey, 31 (Mill A, Washington) & Evelin, 26 (Ecuador)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Walking a Tight Rope

Corey receives shocking news that his dad passed away suddenly. He is in complete disbelief given his father was only 62 and in good health. To Evelin’s credit, she is actually supportive during Corey’s time of need. He will have to return home to support his family and attend his father’s funeral. Evelin is unable to attend, since she no longer has a visa. Sadly, Corey may wake up one day and realize Evelin isn’t worth the time he lost with his father.

Jenny, 60 (Palm Springs, California) & Sumit, 30 (India)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Walking a Tight Rope

Summit takes  Jenny Slatten and her family for a nice dinner in India. Jenny’s daughter asks him about his intentions and why he keeps leaving her mother. He explains that his parents aren’t supportive of their relationship, but he wants to do a ring ceremony. He also reveals he doesn’t intend to invite his family.

Summit admits he will have to take his family’s side, if they won’t allow the marriage. Jenny’s daughter tells him flat out that he isn’t a strong man if his parents can dictate his life. Summit feels like he is in the hot seat because they don’t understand Indian culture. Jenny’s daughter shares a personal story about coming out as gay to her family.

Jenny wasn’t accepting at first, but that was the risk she was willing to take to live her own life. She suggests Summit do what will make him happy regardless if anyone else accepts it. Despite her passionate speech, I believe it went in one of Summit’s ears and out the other. I don’t think he will ever defy his family’s wishes. Jenny will have to decide if she can accept being in a relationship with a man who has to hide her.
