EXCLUSIVE: Are Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Ferguson about to kick off a hit new fantasy movie franchise?
The two acclaimed actors are starring in the upcoming fairy tale adventure The Magic Faraway Tree, directed by Ben Gregor and based on the novels by Enid Blyton. The Magic Faraway Tree‘s main cast also includes Claire Foy, Nonso Anozie, Nicola Coughlan, and Jennifer Saunders. While the jury is still out on this film’s success, sequels are already being discussed.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley, Garfield addressed these reports. When prompted with the comment “I hear there’s two sequels in development?” Garfield responded with enthusiasm about returning to continue the story, suggesting that his co-stars feel the same way, especially because of the emotional and family-oriented experience the adaptation offers. Check out his full comments below:
We would love to make more of these. We had such a pleasurable time doing them, and I think they offer a lot to families in the audience. I feel like families who come and see this film will feel very seen and inspired and cozy, and they’ll laugh and they’ll cry. I think it’s a really lovely day in the cinema with the kids.
In May 2026, producers Pippa Harris and Danny Perkins confirmed that these two Magic Faraway Tree sequels were in development, comparing their potential for success to how the Paddington movies won over audiences. After it has achieved decent critical acclaim and a profitable box office reception, there is no reason to believe that producers would not invest in a continuation.
The Magic Faraway Tree opened theatrically in the U.K. on March 27, 2026, going on to gross $32.2 million worldwide, without help from the North American domestic market. Premiering theatrically in the U.S. this weekend, its total gross can be expected to increase. The movie also has a critical approval rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Published from 1939 to 1951, Blyton’s Faraway Tree series comprises four books, following the adventures of a family who move to a rural home, leading to the three children’s discovery of the titular tree, which is so large it houses whimsical residents and reaches to touch the clouds, taking the characters to fantastical lands.
Production on the next movie may begin as soon as 2027, if everything lines up with the main cast’s schedules. In the meantime, The Magic Faraway Tree is sharing the domestic box office this weekend with new arrivals Insidious: Out of the Further, Mutiny, and Spa Weekend. None of these has anywhere near the same magical family appeal.
The Magic Faraway Tree is now in theaters.
