Boruto Is Officially Naruto’s Worst Future Possible After Shocking New Defeat

Movies

The situation looks increasingly dire in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex as Boruto’s coalition with Konoha’s finest isn’t enough to stop Mamushi’s rampage. After a valiant combined effort coordinated by Inojin Yamanaka’s new Mind Transmission Formation jutsu, even some of the most powerful young shinobi of the era have failed.

Originally set up as a plan to lure Mamushi into a trap with Eida as bait, Boruto and Koji Kashin’s gambit backfired when their allies proved unable to hold back the multiplying threat. Even the most powerful new techniques, including a scarily powerful Mangekyo Sharingan technique were not enough to stop what may be Boruto’s worst timeline from happening.

Boruto’s Biggest Defeat in Years Sets Up a Dark Future

Despite the best-laid plans to whittle down the 200-strong forces of Mamushi in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #32, everyone appears to have been beaten as the Mamushi Arc reaches a crucial climax. The plan originally intended for Sarada’s Ohirume to take center stage, killing off up to 50 Mamushis, with Kawaki’s Shinobi Ware and Himawari’s Jinchuriki powers as backup.

But unfortunately, as foreshadowed in chapter #31, Sarada’s god-tier Ohirume jutsu proved too taxing on her, not only exhausting her in the battle but potentially blinding her from Sharingan overuse. In this moment, Kawaki failed to stem the recovering tides of Mamushi clones, and even Daemon, repelling their killing instinct for some glorious insta-kills, wasn’t enough.

The simplest bad outcome of this is the absorption of Eida, bringing the Divine Trees one step closer to enlightenment, and ultimately, consuming the planet’s chakra. This alone is a bad outcome, but it’s also noteworthy that Kawaki was subdued. Being the only one able to release Naruto from his imprisonment, this could produce a dark scenario for Kawaki.

Naruto’s Strongest Tailed Beast Confirms 2026 Return

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex confirms a big return as Mamushi’s assault draws out the big guns.

In this moment, even a gathering of powerhouses like Delta, Daemon, Himawari, Boruto, Kawaki, and others alongside Sarada weren’t enough to stop Mamushi. Everyone appears powerless by chapter #32’s end. Koji appears to remain calm, suggesting he’s expecting this turn of events, but it’s hard not to see at least one fatality coming out of this fight in upcoming chapters.

So far, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has not shown much commitment to killing off its characters. While Yodo was one such exception, she is far less well-known compared to the near-miss when Jura inflicted a would-be fatal wound on Inojin. But this situation, as Mamushi enlarges his forces to over 1,000 and counting, strongly suggests casualties in the future.

Given Koji has foreseen all possible outcomes, and as shown in the Land of Wind and most recently with Kobu, he’s all too okay with allowing ally deaths. He sees it as a strategic inevitability, and this latest instance follows that pattern, with the greatest likelihood yet for absolute carnage and death. As for who is the likeliest to die, there are a number of candidates.

One possibility hinted by Koji is that of Himawari, for whom Inojin in an alternate future learned Mind Transmission Formation to avenge her. This is especially unlikely given her bearing Kurama now. While it’s also possible that Mamushi will lash out until he gets what he wants, to absorb Eida, it also means Daemon’s in particular danger right now.

One Ninja Is Still the Perfect Answer to Mamushi

As much as it is wishful thinking to say, Naruto Uzumaki’s return is sorely needed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. It’d serve as more than a crowd-pleaser, too, since his signature Shadow Clones, even in the absence of Kurama’s chakra, and his clones are incomparably cohesive even in massive numbers, perfect to wear down Mamushi’s horde to its central controller.

Sasuke Uchiha even reminded Boruto that his father could summon 1,000 clones in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations chapter #3. It’d be satisfying to see this threat turned away by a true franchise icon, but is only possible if Kawaki uses his Kokugan and turns his back on his plan to release Naruto after defeating the Otsutsuki threat.

Still, relasing Naruto and Hinata from the Daikokuten has its own ramifications. It’d be out of a need to protect Boruto and his allies, and prevent Eida’s absorption, but doing so would likely make Naruto in far greater danger of drawing out Jura.

But as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex wears on, time will tell what’s got Koji so unnervingly calm as Konoha’s heroes face a dire threat.
