Lovecraftian Extraction Shooter ‘The Bornless’ Gets New Gameplay Trailer Ahead of Steam Next Fest Demo [Watch]

After making an appearance during The Horror Game Awards Summer Showcase last weekend, Cathedral Studios has released a new Steam Next Fest trailer for their upcoming Lovecraftian eight-player extraction FPS, The Bornless. And while there’s no demo for Steam Next Fest just yet (don’t worry, it’s coming), there will be a Playtest running from June 7 to the 8 that you can request access to from the game’s Steam page.

The Bornless takes place in 1967 on Farmouth Island, a stretch of wilderness off the Massachusetts coast. Face off against other players, summon demons, and build factions in the game’s Lovecraftian world. Use Black Magick, acquire powerful weapons, upgrade your Safehouse, and strategize to survive.

The main game mode in The Bornless is Ritual Mode, a three-phase PvPvE survival horror extraction game where you’ll face off against demonic forces and rival players. In the first phase, Loot and Explore, you and your partner start out in an isolated cabin and navigate through the forests of Farmouth Island. You’ll fight for Sigils, battle cultists and demons to complete quests, and gather valuable items.

In the second phase, known as The Ritual,  players will use Incense to activate ancient ritual sites known as Gates, which yield rare Sigils that are necessary for the final confrontation. However, each completed ritual highlights  your location to rival players, who will attempt to take the Sigil for themselves.

The final phase, Hunt or Be Hunted, summons a demon, which will begin hunting the remaining players. You must now find an extraction point before the time runs out to escape the island. Each successful extraction increases your power, and builds up resources and collectibles from the game’s rarity-based loot system.

That includes unlocking new skins, loadouts, and other customization options as you level up. The Bornless will also employ a faction mechanic, where you can join other players in global campaigns and seasonal tournaments. You’ll also be able to build and customize your Safehouse, a pre-match hub that “is a testament to your success in The Bornless.”
