Developer Talking Drums are taking a cue from the likes of Conscript and Amnesia: The Bunker with their own story-driven third-person World War I Survival Horror game in Trench Tales. After a successful Kickstarter, the devs began Alpha testing Trench Tales in August, with the game receiving an update a few weeks back.

Set in a alternative Gothic world against the backdrop of World War I, Trench Tales takes place in the heart of Verden, a realm that’s been torn apart by the conflict of two brothers vying for the throne. You emerge as a lone wanderer, summoned to this realm by enigmatic forces, with a mission shrouded in secrecy. Your purpose: to unravel the enigma of your summoning, confront the malevolent powers that brought you here, and ultimately, carve a path back to your world.

You are no ordinary soldier, mind you. Players will unlock a diverse set of powers, including the ability to slow time, unleash bursts of energy, and rapidly heal wounds. You will also possess a visionary sight that penetrates walls, enhancing strategic planning by revealing hidden pathways and enemy positions. You’ll also have access to a diverse arsenal, featuring handguns, machine guns, sniper rifles, and heavy weapons. Trench Tales‘ robust customization system allows you to modify barrels, stocks, scopes, and grips to enhance your accuracy and stability. With options like silencers for stealth and recoil-reducing attachments for control, you can craft personalized firearms to gain a strategic edge.

Alpha signups are still on, so head on over to Steam and request access.
