Internet goes wild as angry mother-to-be blames bakery for “ruining” gender reveal

LGBTQ Entertainment News

A soon-to-be mother is going viral online for her video in which she called out a bakery for allegedly ruining her gender reveal surprise by telling her what color was inside her cake.

In the video, TikTok user “morbidmama7,” who is called “Ariel” in the video, plays a voicemail message left for her by an unnamed bakery about a problem with her cake order as she makes faces. She says that she asked for a cake that would have a raspberry filling if she’s having a child who will be assigned female at birth and a blackberry filling if she’s having a child who will be assigned male at birth.

In the message, the bakery worker says that the bakery doesn’t make blackberry filling and that they need to “talk about the cake.”

“Listen to this voicemail I got from the bakery COMPLETELY RUINING MY GENDER REVEAL,” reads the text over the video.

In the caption, Ariel wrote: “imagine paying $$, walking into a baker with a sealed envelope from a doctor, currating [sic] a whole special, intimate moment with you & your partner… just to have some random, careless woman ruin it with a single voicemail… thaaaanks… if my eyes are red it’s cause I’ve been crying all morning.”

In the comments on TikTok, people asked why she didn’t have a friend or family member handling this to protect her from knowing the secret ahead of the gender reveal. “Why didn’t you have a gender keeper,” one of the top comments asked.

“her face expression is painfully very millenial,” someone else said.

Others took her side: “No because why couldn’t she just say, ‘can you give us a call about your order?’”

Another suggested she cancel the cake order and tell the bakery, “I actually don’t need the cake anymore because you ruined the surprise.”

The video was posted to X, where people were decidedly more critical of Ariel, saying that this isn’t a real problem, that gender reveal parties are uncouth, that the bakery worker was just doing her job, and even that blackberry and raspberry filling look very similar so there wouldn’t have been much of a reveal.

Back on TikTok, Ariel posted a video of the gender reveal with her boyfriend, saying that she already knew what was inside of the cake.

She also posted a video highlighting one of the comments that was on her side and thanked her followers for supporting her.
