ACOTAR TV Show Update Will Have Book Fans Feeling Thorny

Booktok fans are going to be full of mist and fury over the latest ACOTAR update.

The TV show adaptation of Sarah J. Maas‘ novel A Court of Thorns and Roses is seemingly back to square one, as it has said goodbye to its showrunner who would have led writing and production. Ronald D. Moore, who first signed onto the Hulu project in 2021, shared he left the series due to a career pivot.

“I can tell you I am no longer working on it because I left Disney and I’ve returned to Sony,” the Outlander creator told Entertainment Weekly during a Comic-Con 2024 event on July 25. “And ACOTAR was a project that was at 20th Century Television and Disney.”

So, how is the adaptation coming along in his absence? Ronald admitted that when he walked away it was “still in development.” As he explained, “I don’t know what the status is anymore.”

But while the fantasy romance series may still be in the beginning stages of getting made, fans shouldn’t lose all hope. After all, the show hasn’t been scrapped just yet.
