There are few television shows where one moment, you can see wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper fully freaked over a poltergeist and the next, catch The Partridge Family‘s Shirley Jones in an ascot mildly put out by a haunted house. Such is the joy of Celebrity Ghost Stories.
One of the show’s many notable qualities is that the celebrities within one episode are strangely matched, like someone tore out pages from a bunch of People magazines from the 1970s and beyond, threw them in the air like confetti, and then picked 3 or 4 celebs at random to group together per episode. This isn’t a criticism — what would the alternative even be, weird theme nights? — but it’s amusingly whiplash-inducing all the same.
So naturally, Guide to the Unknown followed suit. This week, join Kristen and Will as they recount and comment on the hauntings of a batch of public figures who chose to sit on a soundstage to talk about spooky stuff.
As a teen, The Craft‘s Fairuza Balk had a solo stay in a haunted hotel room that came alive around her, which was scary enough, but the staff placed her there knowing there had been similar complaints. Nia Long, from Boyz N The Hood, was gifted with a visit from her grandfather on the night of his death, but Kristen and Will are extremely surprised to hear about the terrifying form he took.
They also cover short and sweet stories from Eric Balfour of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and Tempestt Bledsoe from The Cosby Show (seriously, this is what Celebrity Ghost Stories is like, it’s incredible) and, perhaps most notably, learn that Will has more in common with Willie Garson of Sex and the City fame than just a first name.
They share the experience of searching for a lost ring that shows up in a spot that was already thoroughly searched…and it turns out these incidents occurred a mere street away from each other. Stars: they really are just like us. Ghost stories and all.
