‘Doom’ Meets ‘Friday the 13th’ in the ‘Friday the 13th: Jason’s Doom’ Total Conversion [Video]

Horror

Doom has featured a lot of mods and total conversions from some very creative people over its 30 years, and they just keep on coming. Doom designer John Romero blessed fans with SIGIL II a few weeks back, and now modders Gokuma and Kontra Kommando have given Doom fans and fans of the LJN classic (or not, depending on your point of view) Friday The 13th for the NES a treat with which to head into 2024: Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom, a total conversion of the NES sidescroller into Doom.

Currently still in beta over at ModDB, Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom takes after the NES game, but this time, it’s Doomguy having to hunt down Jason and defeat him. Gokuma and Kontra have done an amazing job of taking the NES game’s graphics and sounds into Doom, recreating the map of Crystal Lake and the cabins. They’ve even made it so Jason is always going around the map after spawning at one of few random spots, with musical cues to let you know whether he’s in a cabin or attacking/killing someone.

The music from the NES game has been remade for the mod, which doesn’t quite sound like the NES chiptunes, but really, it’s darn close. If that’s not enough, you can configure it so that you and you friends can join a game and split up to take on Jason! Future updates look to tweak more of the weapons to be in line with the NES game, along with the usual bugfixes.

Thanks to reader ManiacalMike for the heads up (and Lee nocisum for the video)!
