Devonté Hynes Releases Soundtrack Album for New Paul Schrader Movie Master Gardener: Listen

The first full-length from the Blood Orange musician since 2021

Devonté Hynes scored director and writer Paul Schrader’s new movie, Master Gardener, and he’s now released his soundtrack album (via Milan Records). The album closes with Mereba’s cover of S.G. Goodman’s “Space and Time.” Listen to the new album below.

Master Gardener premiered last year at the Venice International Film Festival. The movie stars Joel Edgerton as a horticulturist at an estate called Gracewood Gardens. It’s the first movie written and directed by Schrader since 2021’s The Card Counter.

Hynes has made music for several movies and television series, including Palo Alto, Queen & Slim, We Are Who We Are, Gia Coppola’s Mainstream, Netflix’s Passing, and HBO’s In Treatment. His latest Blood Orange album, Negro Swan, arrived in August 2018.

Hynes performed with Harry Styles at the Grammy Awards in 2021 and he eventually opened for the pop star at Madison Square Garden. Read “Burning CDs With Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes in the Basement of Madison Square Garden” on the Pitch.
