Battle an Experiment Gone Awry in 80s Monster Movie Inspired Roguelite ‘Demon Spore’ [Trailer]

Horror

Whereas Carrion was clearly inspired by John Carpenter’s The Thing, DinoBoss Ltd’s Demon Spore looks to be the closest so far to fans playing a video game adaptation of The Blob. The upcoming action roguelite twin stick shooter has a new gameplay teaser trailer, courtesy of IGN.

Currently in development for PC via Steam, Demon Spore takes inspiration from the 1988 Chuck Russell film and other 80s monster movies. Inside a genetic research laboratory, a tissue replication experiment has gone wrong and given birth to a viral mass of cells that is spreading out of control and evolving into some otherworldly creature. You play as an unfortunate scientist trapped inside the room where this experiment is taking place, along with a few survivors. You’ll have to use your scientific experience to learn how the organism behaves, find it’s weaknesses and fight your way to safety.

Sounds simple, right? Well, the creature obviously complicates things, due to its unpredictable nature. That includes the creature’s ability to even infect your fellow scientists and turn them against you. You’ll also have to contend with lab personnel that are trapped with you. Do you rescue them, which in turn grants you new equipment to help combat the creature, or do you focus on saving yourself?

You’re not totally defenseless in Demon Spore. You can use any lab tools you can find to cut off the creature’s tentacles, target its weak spots and stunt its growth. Thanks to the lab personnel, you can also create experimental weaponry and repurpose lab equipment to improvise your way to safety.
