Inside Julie Chrisley’s prison stay: Church, card games and more

Reality TV

Savannah Chrisley shared an inside look at what life has looked like for her mom, Julie Chrisley, since she began her seven-year prison sentence earlier this month.

“My mom, she’s honestly doing really well, and I know it sounds crazy for me to say that like it’s crazy for me to say, ‘Alright they’re doing really well,’ but they are,” Savannah, 25, said on her “Unlocked” podcast on Tuesday.

The “Chrisley Knows Best” alum told her listeners that her mom, 50, has “made friends” and is “keeping busy” at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky since she surrendered there on Jan. 17.

“She’s going to church, she’s working, she’s playing some Spades — and when I tell you she’s playing, she’s running a dog on everyone,” Savannah said while laughing.

Savannah explained that Spades is her family’s “thing,” so it makes her “heart happy to know that my parents are OK.”

The television personality also gave an update on how her dad, Todd Chrisley, has been enjoying his 12-year stay at the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida.

“He is working in the chapel, which is absolutely amazing, and I could never be more proud of my dad and the man that he is,” she gushed. “I get to hear all these people’s stories and how he’s affecting their life and encouraging change.”

Chrisley added that her dad, 53, has been “absolutely amazing” in encouraging his fellow inmates to “know Jesus.”

“That puts me at peace,” she said as she started to cry again. “It lets me know that they are OK. This isn’t the ideal situation, but we find strength in knowing that this isn’t the end.”

Savannah added that although her dad is “doing pretty good,” there are still “days that are tough” with various “struggles.”

“We talk to him, we email him, we get to see him, so for that, I am forever grateful,” she said.

The “Growing Up Chrisley” star shared that in addition to Todd being able to email back and forth with them, he also recently got permission to email Julie.

“That makes me so so so happy. I spoke to my dad on the phone, and he just had tears rolling down his eyes because he got the approval to email my mom,” she raved while adding that it’s “God working.”

Savannah ended her update by assuring her fans that her parents have made a few friends behind bars that help “make the time go by quicker.”

Todd and Julie were indicted on fraud and tax evasion charges in August 2019 and were later found guilty of those crimes in June 2022.

The former reality couple has maintained their innocence and has filed to appeal their convictions.
