Madi Diaz, S.G. Goodman, and Joy Oladokun Cover Patty Griffin’s “Be Careful” to Benefit Abortion Within Reach Coalition: Listen
Ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, Madi Diaz, S.G. Goodman, and Joy Oladokun have released a cover of the Patty Griffin song “Be Careful.” The cover was produced by Diaz and Goodman; it was engineered and mixed by Alex Hope. All proceeds from the release go to the Abortion Within Reach Coalition, an organization dedicated to reproductive justice and abortion accessibility.
In a statement, Diaz said that she listened to the song after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and was inspired to record her own version in response. She said:
Diaz’s latest album, History of a Feeling, was released in August 2021. Since then, she’s unveiled her Same History, New Feelings EP, which includes four new versions of songs from History of a Feeling with a guest artist on each track.
Oladokun shared her major-label debut, In Defense of My Own Happiness, last year. She recently shared a new song with Chris Stapleton called “Sweet Symphony.”
S.G. Goodman’s second album, 2022’s Teeth Marks, was released in June. See why it was included on Pitchfork’s list of “34 Great Records You May Have Missed: Spring/Summer 2022.”
