Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson are “moving forward” after calling it quits last month.
The “Love Is Blind” stars took to their respective social media pages on Wednesday to give insight into their “whirlwind” experience and its regretful ending.
“It has taken some time to publicly speak about my marriage ending, as emotions are still raw,” Ruhl, 29, wrote on Instagram Wednesday. “However, I will always appreciate those who have followed my journey and continue to support me throughout this entire experience.”
Although the pair’s marriage didn’t work out, Ruhl reflected on the “incredible friends” and new perspective she gained since being on the show.
“I’ve also learned to love myself and to prioritize surrounding myself with those who love me for who I am,” she said, adding that “the future is bright” and that her “next chapter will be the best one yet.”
Thompson, 36, also talked about the pair’s split, saying that while fans watched their love story unfold on TV, people have “little insight into the reality of our day-to-day life experiences.”
“The last few weeks have been especially challenging for me,” he confessed on Instagram just two hours before his estranged wife’s post. “Like many of us going through a loss or life-altering event, we experience cycles of grief while we navigate our emotions.”
He continued, “Everyone perceives and experiences grief differently when a relationship ends, let alone the loss of a marriage in the public eye. I’m working through my own mental and emotional challenges to overcome feelings of anxiety and depression.”
Thompson went on to say he’s leaned into those “loyal” to him in an effort to block out the people who “disappoint or do not align” with his “truth or well-being.”
“Most importantly, I’ve learned it’s okay to not be okay and that staying true to myself is essential to find my way forward.”
He concluded by noting that he’s “grateful” for the experience, but still trying to heal his wounds.
“I am heartbroken my marriage ended. I know in my heart that I did the best I could and gave it everything I had.”
Ruhl had filed for divorce from Thompson on Aug. 15 after being married for over one year.
Many fans of the hit reality show were shocked to hear the pair had split after Ruhl gushed about the former couple’s plans to renew their vows a month earlier.
“At either our two — or three-year — anniversary, we really wanna redo a reception to make sure all of our families can be there,” she told Us Weekly in July. “I’ve always dreamt of my dream wedding and wedding planning and a bachelorette party. And so we’re redoing all of that … when we have the time.”
At the time of their breakup, they were one of the last couples from Season 2 of “Love Is Blind” still together.
