Olivia Rodrigo is set to present Alanis Morissette at her induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on September 24 at Toronto’s Massey Hall. Morissette is joined by Bryan Adams and his songwriting partner Jim Vallance, as well as David Foster and Daniel Lavoie. Alessia Cara, Corey Hart, and Nickelback are scheduled to perform tributes to the inductees.

In a statement to Exclaim! Rodrigo said:

“I remember hearing Alanis for the first time when I was about 13. I was in the car with my parents when Jagged Little Pill came on. I heard ‘Perfect,’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God… You can write songs like that?’ I just looked at music and songwriting in a completely different way.”

On her latest tour the American Rodrigo has performed with a coterie of international artists that graced the pop charts before she was born: Morissette (for a duet of “You Oughta Know”) Avril Lavigne, Lily Allen, and Natalie Imbruglia. Morissette continues her 2022 world tour next month in Louisville, Kentucky. Jagged, a documentary film about her rise to stardom, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year; Morissette has disavowed it, claiming it includes things “that are simply not true.”

Watch Alanis Morissette explain how she builds her songs in her episode of Pitchfork’s “Critical Breakthroughs.”
